Welcome to Paris! Le Pont de l'Archevêché :This bridge was
built in record time: April to November 1828. The name comes from the
presence near it of the building that housed the archbishopric. Sited
close to Notre Dame cathedral, it has now been demolished. In 1910 plans
were made to replace this three-arched bridge with a single span to ease
navigation, but the plans never bore fruit. In 1911 a bus fell from the
bridge after crashing through the parapet. Eleven were killed and nine
injured in this disaster. Le pont Louis-Philippe : This bridge was built
in 1861-1862 in replacement of the "reform bridge", which became
too narrow. It connects the Saint-Louis island to the right bank of the
Seine river.
